Colors of Peace

Colosseum – Roma (Italy)

21 Settembre 2020

The Walk of Peace, the longest artwork in the world, comes to Rome to represent the symbol of the International Day of Peace.
A huge rainbow invite the visitors in a journey through the colors with a message of optimism and hope for the future.
On Monday 21st September 2020 the associations I Colori per la Pace and Peace Run Italia join to celebrate the International Day of Peace 2020 with the exhibition Colors of Peace. The wonderful Colosseum Archaeological Park, for years a national emblem for peace appeals and awareness campaigns, welcomes the children’s dreams for a world of peace and their drawings in Piazza del Colosseo and on the Via Sacra.
The exhibition showed the work of Dale, in front of  the entrance of the Colosseum, followed by over 700 drawings from different cultures and traditions. The inauguration ceremony was accompanied by the presentation of the artistic performance EMPATIA. The First Encounter. created by Dale and performed by the dancers of the European Academy of Dance in Rome and by the violinist Alessandro Aiello.
The Colosseum is the wonderful frame of the performance, which creates  an interdisciplinary communication  based on the improvisation and on the emotional expression of “a first meeting” among strangers.
The dialogue is played through the curiosity of putting oneself in the others’ shoes, without any practice on movements, music and gestures.
The dimension of technical construction is abandoned to arrive at a free sensorial and bodily expression guided by a spirit of peace.
Art becomes a moment of union aimed at experimenting interdisciplinary ways of creative expression; thus, dance, music and art come together in an engaging performance on the theme of peace and human relationship.
“The pandemic has forced us to further reflect on the meaning of human relationships. Empathy is a key to understand and access the other’s world by reducing the physical distance that separates us.
The First Encounter is an artistic attempt that does not aim at complete symbiosis among performers, rather at the enhancement and acceptance of differences and diversities.
Art is a powerful means for social awareness and to express a message of peace through positivity and hope for the future. “
The event reached an important participation of the institutions, the President of the Senate Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, shared a message to promote the values of the culture of peace and reminds us how peace begins with each of us with our daily actions.
Even the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, joined the authorities who supported the anniversary.
